    About Custom Data Fields

The custom fields feature is available to customers who have purchased the add-on module.  This article and others in this chapter are targeted for Custom Field administrators who have access privileges to add, edit, delete and assignee access rights to custom fields.  Users of custom fields should refer to the chapter called "Using Custom Fields" in this help guide.

Custom fields allows you to add your own custom data inside of AcclaimIP and search, filter, sort, facet, import and export the data as if it were part of our normal patent data set.  There is no performance impact when integrating your custom data with global patent data.

Additionally, if you license our API, you can update custom field data automatically from your AIM or Annuities Management application among other capabilities.  To use the AcclaimIP API you must have an additional license, and you will need programmers to implement features on your end.  API documentation is stored in a separate system.

    Importing Application Numbers

AcclaimIP's importing feature imports document numbers which are patent numbers, or application publication numbers. You cannot import application serial numbers in the form of 12/123456 directly into AcclaimIP, but there is a work around.

This technique is particularly helpful when you want to check the publication status of your applications in progress. The application serial number (APN) can usually be downloaded from your IAM (Intellectual Asset Management) software application.

    Steps:

    1. Perform a search on the application serial numbers.
    2. Save the search results to a research folder.

Note: When performing these searches, you are limited to 1000 patent numbers per clause. If you want to import more than 1000 APNs, break up the query into two or more clauses. This technique is shown below.

    Importing Patents from a Spreadsheet

Patents can be imported into AcclaimIP from data sent to you in spreadsheets or text files such as emails and word processing documents.  You import patents to a research folder which can be shared with other users in your workgroup (company) or with external AcclaimIP users from other organizations.

    Accessing Account Management Features

All of the features you need to manage your account are located in one place inside of AcclaimIP.  To access your account management features, choose the My Account option from the Start menu.

Only customer administrators have access to account management features.  If you are not the account administrator, you will not have account management capabilities.

If you want to change customer administrators, contact AcclaimIP, and we'll make the new person the admin.

    Research Folders Overview

Research folders store two types of data.

    • Saved Searches.
    • Patent Documents.

Research Folders can hold up to 50,000 documents each depending on the plan you signed up for.  They can be shared with other members of your team, and even with users outside your company as long as they also have an AcclaimIP account.

Research Folders are more than just a place to store the results of your searches.  AcclaimIP's advanced syntax gives you the ability to find unions, intersections and differences between folders and are in themselves analysis tools.

The contents of Folders can be charted together giving you the ability to chart two portfolios across the same dimensions for comparative charts.

    Setting User Preferences

You can set your user Preferences so the application's default behavior is customized to suit your needs. For example, you can customize the following:

    1. Which data columns appear in your default search results.
    2. Default date ranges searched.
    3. Which collections are searched by default.
    4. Default sort (we recommend Relevancy unless there is specific reason to sort on another column).
    5. Overall look and feel of AcclaimIP including colors, window sizes, and wallpaper.
    6. Idle time before AcclaimIP automatically logs you out.
